MEGHAN MARKLE: A GIRL WITH DREAMS BECAME A WOMAN WITH VISION

By FC - December 03, 2017

Ladies, as you know, last week Meghan Markle took over the internet and not only did she rob Prince Harry his heart but she robbed our hearts too. I have been loving her since the first day I saw Suits. With millions of blogposts already dedicated to her engagement, we would like to take this time to place our Meghan Markle in the spotlights, because she is a badass woman. This is for her and the things she stands for, one of them being gender equality. She has a voice that definitely has to be heard and she is such a great example for young women out there.

Rachel Meghan Markle (Yes, her name in real life is Rachel too) grew up in Los Angeles. In 2003, she graduated from Northwestern University and earned her bachelor's degree with a double major in theater and international studies. She also worked as an intern at the US embassy in Buenos Aires.

The first speech I have ever seen of her was at the one at UN Women Conference back in 2015. And let me tell you, her story about her 11 year old self, it is so inspiring. It made me want to write this post immediately to get other women hear it too.

At just the age of 11, Meghan Markle became and advocate for women. When she was watching a tv show in elementary school, this commercial for dish washing soap came on with the tagline "Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans". Two boys from her class said: "Yeah that's where women belong.. In the kitchen. As any other woman would, Meghan felt angry, hurt and shocked. She knew that something had to be done. Her father encouraged her to write letters (A big applause for her awesome dad). She wrote letters to the most powerful women, including the First Lady at the time, Hillary Clinton. She also wrote a letter to the soap manufacturer. After a few weeks she received letters of encouragement from all the great women. About a month later the soap manufacturer changed the commercial tagline to: "People all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans". At this moment, Meghan realized that her actions had great impact at the age of 11.

Let this be a reminder that your actions have impact. No matter how small you think it is. Never, ever underestimate yourself, because you are important, your voice is important and your thoughts are important. Just by making small changes, we can change the world. But only if we stick together and empower each other. Like Meghan quoted, little girls with dreams, become women with vision.
